Meeting Minutes April 20, 2024

EAA Chapter 1167

Old Business:

• Spring Fly-in planned for May 11 Runway construction planned to be complete by May 1st.
• Include an appeal for additional pilots from other chapters.
• Doug Floyd will coordinate pilots from other Chapters
• ROTC went out from the commander so we may get far more than normal.
• Market the grand reopening of the airport following runway upgrades.
• Fall Fly-in planned for Nov. 9

New Business:

• Consider the Scouts and YE groups for a 2025 AA candidate. This is consistent with our earlier candidates.

Main Discussion:

• Suggested that we don’t send or solicit an air academy person this year until the new administration figures out what they’re going to make of the program. Will no longer be run under the rules of a camp and non-aviation people and they’re not communicating the new vision.
• Speculation that insurance companies are driving out kids for liability.
• Sun-n-Fun, next year there’ll be no trams, just a bunch of golf carts. Claimed to be a big success and a record crowd but LH only saw Saturday as bigger than normal.

Tech Talk:

• The Long EZ discussed in last month’s AOPA “there I was” is in Carl’s shop. He described how the engine had failed and was likely the root cause.
